How distinct is the data for hardware recommendations?
Recommendations for hardware are identified by various tests and from project experience. Data, load profile and other infrastructure can strongly influence results. Therefore this information can be only one specific facet of choosing hardware.

Which operating systems are recommended by SEAL Systems for the server?
The preferred operating system is Windows 2003 Server 32 Bit.
As an alternative Suse Linux Enterprise Server 10 32 Bit/64 Bit is suggested.
CAD conversion server solutions are only supported for Windows XP Professional SP 2 (or higher) 32 Bit.
Furthermore there is additional support for unix operating systems.

Which computer type is necessary for server installation?
A server hardware with a failsafe hard disk or mirrored subsystem is recommended.

Can SEAL Systems software be installed on a computer with other applications (eg SAP Content Server, SAP Application Server, Domain controller)?
It is not advisable to install such services on the server. Installation and support services can affect the availability of these services. But it is technically possible, if the preconditions concerning server equipment and operating system is met.

Does SEAL Systems support VMware?
Yes, most server components are tested for VMware and run with VMware. CAD conversion solutions are not supported for VMware. Check your license and requirements for any additional applications, such as CAD, that will run along side SEAL Systems software.
Other application converters (eg Microsoft Office) can not be tested with all possible versions combined with the processing data. Our experience shows, that conversions with these applications cause no problems under VMware.

Does SEAL Systems support other virtual system solutions?
No.

Print data can be more or less very complex. Especially when processing application data such as Office, CAD. Therefore the above equipment suggestions are valid for simple print data of the formats PCL, PostScript, HPGL, TIFF/G4,  PDF or SAPGOF with letter format of approximately 10 pages per job.

The operating system is dependent on the source application of the conversion.

Computer equipment

This data is for conversions of Microsoft Office documents with an average of 10 pages or 2D CAD drawings with 1 page. For 3D CAD drawings the system data of the CAD construction computers should be used.

Due to technical reasons the needed ram when using "SEAL Document Conversion Suite for BC-XDC" is calculated like this:

ram = total amount of conversion data x 2

The computer configuration should be chosen according this formula.

The mentioned times do not cover administration and processing times of the ordering systems, eg. the time for retrieve files from SAP.

FAQ

Is it possible to install various application converters on one server?
Yes, with the exception of CAD conversions. On a single system a CAD conversion and any other non CAD conversion can be installed.
Various CAD conversions on one server are not supported.

Which operating systems are supported for CAD conversions?
Almost all CAD systems are approved only for Windows XP Professional SP 2 (or higher) 32 Bit and therefore are only supported for these systems.
Support for Windows Vista is under review.

Is it possible to install conversion solutions on the same server as the ouput management system or the DMS View server?
Conversions of Microsoft Office documents or CAD drawings are very hardware intensive and can significantly reduce the performance of other applications.
Therefore seperate hardware is recommended for conversion.

This data is for viewing an average of 10 pages PDF or TIFF/G4 documents.

FAQ

Are there any specific requirements for the DMS View/Server?
Yes, the DMS View/Server is an interactive application. Maximum load of another application can temporarily lead to reduced response.

SEAL Systems server solutions work with many operating systems. However, not all solutions are available for all operating systems.

Notes

• Suse Linux is preferred.
• Itanium is not supported, except with HP-UX and the BC-XOM interface.

Restrictions

Some applications are principally not available for all supported operating systems.

CAD Conversions

The installations of CAD conversions are usually supported only for Windows XP 32 Bit.

If you intend to use any operating system other than the ones listed above, or intend using the above operating systems in a virtual environment, the system should be configured and tested sequentially in the following order

• CAD system
• CAD converter
• DPF4Convert

Owing to the fact that CAD software controls the hardware, it is difficult to operate CAD in a virtual environment. As yet, the providers of CAD software have not provided a solution.
